Port Area is one of the defined neighborhood/community in Manila. The place was developed from South Harbor, the first of the two sections of the Port of Manila developed in the early 19th century. The North Harbor, separated by the Pasig River, is situated in the vicinity of Tondo. As of the May 1, 2010 census, Port Area has a population of 57,405. The area is subdivided into five barangays named by numbers, from Barangay 649 to Barangay 653. The vast percentage of the population are living in informal settlements in Barangay 649. ==Geography== To the north, Port Area is bounded by the Pasig River, separating the area from Tondo and San Nicolas areas of Manila. To the east, Bonifacio Drive separates the area from Intramuros, the oldest historic district of Manila. To the south, the 25th Street separates the area from Ermita, Manila.
